Revitalise body and mind with time-honoured massage techniques.

Treatments

Massage is one of the oldest  healing therapies. The earliest records date back to China – 3000BC. They called their technique “amma” and used specific movements and pressure points on the body to improve and restore health and promote relaxation.

Massage was widely used by the Greeks – 500BC. Hippocrates, Plato and Socrates all recommended rubbing “to bind a joint that is loose and to loosen a joint that is too rigid”. Galen a Roman physician to the Emperor prescribed massage for injured Gladiators to prepare them for battle.

He wrote “massage eliminates the waste products of nutrition and the poisons of fatigue”. It is said that Julius Caesar was treated daily with “pinching” all over the body to relieve neuralgia and headaches.

Per Henrik Ling 1776-1839, a Swedish professor developed the technique known as Swedish Massage and established the Ling Institute in Stockholm to teach and promote massage for healing.
