McTimoney-Corley skeletal therapy
Helping you to help yourself
What is McTimoney-Corley skeletal therapy?
I use McTimoney-Corley Skeletal Therapy to restore a persons’ health through gentle corrective manipulations of the bones of the head, spinal column, pelvis and limbs.
This ensures proper functioning of the nerves and endocrine systems which control the natural self healing capabilities of the body. This therapy works with the body not against it and the treatment of the whole skeleton at each session means that any misaligned bones are not forced back into place, but coaxed gently back into alignment through adjustments that encourage soft tissue release.
This treatment doesn’t just relieve pain but can remove the cause of other dis-ease. No cell or organ can function without its correct supply of nerve impulses. McTimoney-Corley therapists receive training in how to assess bone misalignments and to correct them with highly refined but very gentle manipulations using their hands. Remedial exercises will be recommended along with advice, to help prevent a recurrence of the problem.
McTimoney-Corley can help with a range of common conditions including:
- Sciatica
- Frozen shoulder
- Lower back pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Migraines/headaches
- Neck issues
And a range of organic conditions such as:
- Constipation/diarrhoea
- Heartburn/indigestion
- Irregular periods
The Whole Body Whole
The motto of the Association of McTimoney-Corley Skeletal Therapists is “The Whole Body Whole”.
During each therapeutic session, the whole body is checked and treated because a problem in one part of the body may cause an issue, such as pain, elsewhere in the body. This is known as referred pain.
What to expect from your McTimoney-Corley therapy appointment
Initially we will speak on the phone to discuss the issue you are having and see whether or not this treatment is right for you.
When an appointment is made I will ask you to bring a list of any medication you are taking, a large towel and a pillow and to wear thin, loose clothing. No jeans!
Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before your allotted time. If you are late it will eat into your appointment which will finish on time so as not to inconvenience the person after you.
I will do a full consultation, ask about your medication, why you are taking it and for how long.
I will ask about any conditions in your family medical history that are hereditary. I will then go through your current and past medical history and ask if you have had any X-rays, scans or tests.
Then I will explain the treatment to you so ask if you have any questions before you sign the consent form.
I will continue to do a full body realignment, some muscle work and a short neck and shoulder massage to finish. The treatment is very gentle... I do not "crunch" bones. I will explain what I'm doing during the process and feel free to ask any questions.
When it is finished I will suggest some remedial exercises and go through the after care advice with you. It is very important that you follow this for optimum results.
I always see people a week later for a follow up appointment as muscle memory/lifestyle sometimes means that the body can revert to how it was.
Depending on what I find at the second appointment will decide what i do next, maybe if your alignment is good I will do some massage to release the soft tissue.
Sometimes further appointments are necessary, but if after four treatments you don’t feel any better and your alignment hasn’t changed then I will be honest and tell you that perhaps this treatment is not for you and I will signpost you to other options that may be of help.
Most people, once feeling better, come for regular maintenance sessions to keep on top of anything that may be brewing.
